Sen. Shelly Echols on the Session and Her Decision Not to Run for Reelection

Not Many People Walk Away From Power

Last month, Shelly Echols decided not to seek reelection to the Georgia State Senate. It’s very unusual for people to walk away from power. A close associate said, “She’s smart, she’s committed and she has everything in n front of her, people don’t walk away from that.”

The reason is an important one. Brought nearly to tears, Shelly tells us how her Down Syndrome son made the decision easy. He needed his mom to be at home so that’s what she’s going to do. She was humbled by the outpouring of support for this decision. Her husband, Drew Echols, will be running in the primary for Senate seat 49 and he will have primary opposition in Josh Clark, a former State Representative.

But what you will hear in this wide ranging interview is what she accomplished this year and what it means to you. Shelly Echols may have a different title, but she’s not going anywhere.
